This Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Course is designed to provide an essential introduction for anyone who is new to the subject and act as a refresher for those who already work with vulnerable people in a paid or voluntary capacity.

Most adults live normal happy lives. However, for a number of unfortunate people, abuse is a reality and the effects can lead to great unhappiness and sometimes, tragedy.

In simple terms, abuse to adults exists and if you suspect that a person is abusing or being abused, your responsibility is to prevent it. Also, if you are working with vulnerable adults, you have a legal duty of care to intervene and this is fully supported by legislation.

This one day course will help you increase your knowledge and understanding of domestic abuse, and how this applies to working with children and young people. It will help you define domestic abuse, prevalence, myths & facts, the dynamics of control, the impacts on adults & children, asking the question and appropriate responses.

• When as young people they should be worried
• What steps can young people take if they feel they are in trouble

This 2 hour programme is a toolkit to raise awareness of peer sexual exploitation amongst young people. The toolkit includes:

• Defining PSE
• Creating an awareness of how young people can be targeted
• A brief outline of grooming models
• Recognising the abusers
• What increases young people’s vulnerability
• What are the warning signs
• What steps can young people take if they feel they are confused
• Tips and techniques to keep young people safe online
• What services are available to young people who think they may be being groomed or exploited

Thinkuknow Introduction Course includes an in-depth look at:

• How children and young people use the internet and mobile technology
• The nature of online offending against children and young people
• How offenders use the online environment
• Risk taking behaviour of young people online
• Educational and organisational responses and policy in this area
